“Lombok was again struck by a 5.5 magnitude earthquake where at least two people were killed, and dozens injured. We continue to pray for more financial aid to reach the shores of Lombok so that they can return to normalcy.”
In February 2019, as the exclusive agent and distributor of Katadyn Group, Swisspro has visited Lombok for 4 days. Knowing that multiple earthquakes and aftershocks have struck Lombok badly and causing numerous locations with no access to clean drinking water, the trip was to look into Lombok’s situation after the earthquake in 2018.
Attended by Alan Chan, International Business Development Executive and Mr Joshua Tan from bgri.org, some of the Katadyn products was deployed to showcase to local residents on how to filter water using the right applications.
The first Katadyn Base Camp Pro 10L was deployed to SDN2 (Sekolah Dasar 2) at Obel Obel Kecamatan Sembelia Kebupaten Lombok Timur. In order to ensure the seawater has not contaminated the well water in that area, we have to check the salinity of the water source using a TDS meter. At SDN2, the children is currently drinking unfiltered water from the water tank directly. With the product demonstration, the school gave instructions on how to use Katadyn Base Camp to filter the unfiltered water first.
Subsequently, they are taught to top up their water bottles in the morning and by the end of the day as well. This way, they get to drink clean filtered water.

School feels our Base Camp is very versatile (can be carried out for school excursions) and the students do appreciate easy access to clean drinking water
Further away at Sembalun, their 24 hr medical centre got it bad during the earthquake as it totally collapsed. As such, their chairman donated his father’s land for a temporary medical centre to be set up. The Katadyn Drip Filter donated by Swisspro was deployed as reliable filtration for the centre whereby clean water is the key in treating patience. The second Katadyn Base Camp is deployed to their Mobile Clinic so that they can bring it out when they receive distress calls from people at faraway places such as Mount Rinjani.
